Questions For Humans
1. Do you have an office?
Although I have many local patients, I also work with patients
nationwide. I've learned that with this age of technology and
the busy lives we all lead, that it is most convenient to deliver
lab results by phone, or other modes of technology such as skype.
I am also available to meet with patients that reside locally
or choose to travel to meet with me. A meeting location is then
agreed upon or a house call is arranged. In today's economy and
with respect to the number of patients that I do work with by
phone consultation, I have chosen not to maintain an office location.
3. What
is included in my treatment plan?
There are numerous considerations involved in each treatment
plan. They may include recommendations for further lab testing,
(hormone tests, blood work, etc.), lifestyle recommendations,
bio-identical hormone recommendations, supplementation suggestions
and referral to other practitioners if necessary. I have chosen
to co-manage patient cases with numerous practitioners and feel
that when health care providers can work together it offers the
best available care for the patient concerned. This treatment
plan is included in the written report delivered at the time of
consultation.
4. What
supplementation do you recommend?
I do not prescribe medication. That is outside of my scope
of practice. For the last 10 years I have achieved the best
results with my patients by utilizing Standard Process products.
This company is based out of Palmyra, Wisconsin and has been
considered a gold standard provider of supplementation products
in my profession for over 75 years.
The company was founded by a dentist, Dr. Royal Lee. It is
based upon a philosophy that mother nature knows best and by
providing what are called whole food supplements, the body has
the best support necessary to heal itself. To learn more about
the whole food philosophy, please

One of the many reasons that I chose this company was that
it requires those that recommend the products to be licensed
physicians. This prevents any multi-level marketing pyramid
schemes and demands a certain level of education and responsibility
when recommending products to patients. With the lack of regulation
over the supplementation market in our country, paired with
the availability of nutrition products at locations such as
Walmart, Target or even the local grocery store, anyone can
become sucked in by fancy marketing and packaging. I believe
that it is crucial to have confidence in the quality of the
product that you are putting into your body and a specific reason
why the product is being used along with outcome measures in
place to ensure that it is doing it's job. Everything that goes
into the body affects it in some way. Not only is it vital to
safeguard the body from harm, but the question bears itself:
why waste any money you don't have to?
5. What
bio-identical hormones do you use?
I primarily use products from a company called Bezwecken, founded
by Dr. Shefrin, but may recommend specifically compounded bio-identical
hormones if needed. Every person is different.
6. Why
do you employ "best practices" into your consultation practice?
The term "best practices" very simply means that as a physician
I have taken the responsibility to stay current on the information
that is available in this particular field of study, to thoroughly
review and consider the patient's case presentation and to make
my clinical decisions based upon the best information available
to me at that moment. I feel that this is one of the most important
things that I can do for my patients and that taking this time
and care has created the best possible scenario of success for
each of the patients that I work with.
7. What
else do you do?
I have been a frequent presenter of this information to numerous
groups. Fees for public speaking can be obtained by contacting
me directly. I also accept referral cases from physicians and
other healthcare workers nationwide.
8. What
products do you sell?
I do not keep an inventory of products nor do I sell products
for profit. I do however recommend several products that many
of my patients have found beneficial over the years and tell
you where to get them.
Two of the most popular products patient have loved are:
The Diva Cup
This is a medical grade silicone menstrual cup that is used
as a healthy alternative to pads or tampons. Many women that
are trying to get pregnant have also inserted them for a brief
time to retain seminal fluid and increase conception opportunities.
This is a company owned by a mother/daughter team based out
of Canada: Francine & Carrine. They are wonderful to work with.
Comfort Suppositories
This is a product used to lubricate the vaginal tissues during
intercourse. It is particularly helpful for those that are perimenopausal
or menopausal with vaginal dryness.

page.
9. Who
needs the type of testing that you offer?
My patients range in age from children to those in their 90s.
I work with men, women and children of all races. Being healthy
can be hard, but it's much easier when you use the proper testing,
combine subjective feedback with objective data and create a
plan. I've been referred some of the toughest cases that I've
ever come across and I've also worked with patients that simply
wanted to maintain optimal health and chose to perform several
lab tests annually as screening tests to ensure proper health
and vitality. The level of need depends on the health goals
each patient.
10.
Why did you get into this work?
I don't think that it was much past the first week of practice
that I had women walking through the front door with not just
one problematic symptom, but two or three or ten. I realized
early on that I needed to delve deep and the scientist in me
wanted objective measures that I could use to make recommendations
to patients. I looked far and wide for the most reliable labs
with the widest options to offer. I've been using Diagnos-Techs
and Analytical Research Labs exclusively for nearly a decade
now. I credit Dr. Janet Lang for her pioneering work and never
ending belief that we our best work to our patients each and
every time. I do it because I love it. I do it because I've
seen miracles happen with it and I do it because I feel a responsibility
to take my passion, enthusiasm, love for what I do and expertise
to as many people as I can possibly serve in this life.
11. How
is a hair sample obtained?
Obtaining human hair for analysis
These instructions are also located on the back of the hair analysis
lab kit along with several pictures to illustrate obtaining a
proper sample.
1. Sampling: Hair should be clean and dry when
it is being sampled. The sample should be taken between four and
twenty-four hours after washing. For the best quality results
the sample should not be dyed, bleached or permed. Retest samples
should be taken from the same area as the original sample if possible.
2. Sampling Location: Head hair taken from the
nape of the neck will provide the best sample. The growth of the
hair here is relatively steady and should give good, consistent
results. As an option, axillary hair, pubic hair or other body
hair may be used. The growth pattern here is rather sporadic,
but it produces adequate results. Note however, that samples from
the head and different parts of the body should not be mixed together.
Sampling axillary or pubic hair is also a very good way to confirm
that elevated toxic minerals, which have been found in the head
hair, are present in the whole system.
3. Equipment Needed: A standard comb and steel
scissors are all that is basically needed. For short hair, thinning
shears may be used to keep from disturbing the hair style as much
as possible. With long hair, a pin or clip may also be useful.
4. Cutting a Sample: Comb and lift a section
of hair at the nape of the neck. Either pin or clip the section
or have another person hold it out of the way. Separate a smaller
section and cut the hair off as close to the scalp as possible.
For short hair - 1 ½" length, or less - use the entire sample.
For long - over 1 ½" length - cut off and use 1" to 1 ½" of the
hair from the end that was next to the scalp (the root end). Discard
the rest. Take several small samples from different spots and
combine them. This will help assure an accurate, representative
sample on the average, while leaving no noticeable "bald" places
in the hair style.
5. Weighing the Sample: Set up the provided card
weight scale, following the instructions printed on it. Placing
the small samples inside the circle on the card, continue sampling
until the scale tips, indicating that there is approximately 125
mgs in the total sample. This should be about one heaping tablespoonful.
6. Once an adequate sample is accumulated, put the hair into the
provided sampling envelope and enclose it, along with the completed
order form and check to ARL in the attached order envelope. The
sample can be contained in a paper envelope, such as the one provided
by the lab, or a regular mailing envelope. Plastic baggies are
NOT suggested as it is difficult to retrieve all of the hair sample.
Never tape the hair sample to a piece of paper or store it in
aluminum foil as this will contaminate the sample.
Obtaining animal hair for analysis
Obtaining a hair sample for analysis is the same for animals
as it is for humans. Approximately 125 mgs, or about ½ tablespoon,
from as close to the skin as possible is needed.
The hair should be no longer than 1 ½ inches. For long-haired
cats and dogs, the extra length should be cut off and discarded.
The hair should be taken from the animal's chest area. For animals
who are mainly outdoors, wash the testing area with rubbing alcohol
and let it dry completely before taking the sample.
The sample can be contained in a paper envelope, such as the
one provided by the lab, or a regular mailing envelope. Plastic
baggies are NOT suggested as it is difficult to retrieve all of
the hair sample. Never tape the hair sample to a piece of paper
or store it in aluminum foil as this will contaminate the sample.

14. All About Hair Sampling
The accuracy of a mineral analysis depends oupn
many factors. While the laboratory is responsible for the technical
aspects of the test, the results will only be as good as the raw
material or sample that is received. For this reason, the more
care theat is exercidsed by the person sampling the hair, the
better the results will be. Click
